I feel a lot better about our video now, it seems like it is all coming together and last week we all went out and filmed together because of the bits missing in our video. So we have uploaded that and today we put it all together and sorted out all the timing, i think we have about 8 or 9 seconds to fill for the ending and that is it, the rest of the gaps are filled which i'm very pleased about because that was the most frustrating part is that we hadn't filled all the gaps.
Most of our green screen has backgrounds on now, there are still some backgrounds that need going on but it does not take too long to do. We have some text on images as well, this is created by being put on another layer and then moved to where we want it, this is because I think it looks really good and links in well to the lyrics, this is one of the ways to link into the lyrics because the lyrics are so random and not like other songs. We still need to do some editting on green screen, some text and some effects. We want some of the effects to be cartoon - like as we saw this in the video and thought it looked very good and went well with the song. We also have seen some effects which look colourful and this will go very well with our video as all along we have stated how we want it to be very colourful, to embrace the dance/pop/electro side of the song.
I am planning to come in on my day off on Wednesday for as many hours as possible to try and get finishing touches such as effects, texts and last minute editing to try and ensure we have the best possible video we can do.
Our plans for tomorrow's lesson is to do the green screen and editing. I think our group has done well, we have all brought elements into this video to the best of our ability. I like many things the group has done, for example the text and some effects a part of our group has done and I think it looks really good. Because I am used to what we did last year, i've done the text on LiveType and used other applications such as Imovie etc. and been more confident with it because I am more capable than i was last year.

1/12/11
The deadline is getting nearer, I still worry about us creating the full video before the deadline because of how much work is involved in our video.
We have four screen, green screen, backgrounds, editting, effects, cuts, text, layers all involved in our video . The song we have chosen to do is also very hard because as I have mentioned before it has no story line or nothing you can really create a successful storyline to because of how random and fast it is.
But considering what we have to do our group is coping well, we try and use time efficiently, this involves us working as pairs a lot of the time, for example two go off and film and the othe two edit, this has been both pairs to try and distribute it fairly.
At the moment some people are in the film more than others, it is not intentional and we do not want this to happen, so the others film because we have certain pieces misisng in our film and need it included. This may also be because certain bits are filmed better, we try and include as much as we can to make it fair because I do not want anyone to feel left out and that is not what our video is about, but if two people are lip syncing two parts and one is saying it a lot clearer, we are going to put that one in the video because it is simply a better quality clip. We continue to put commitment in, staying in the MAC rooms almost every lunch time working on the video, I also plan to come into college in my own time to get this work done.

I still think we are working quite well, half of us edit the video then the other half does backgrounds etc a lot of the time, this is because we feel that all of us being around one computer with only one mouse doesn't really benefit us with the short amount of time we have, so we need to make sure we use time effectively.
We usually stay every dinner time after media lessons to continue to do the work, this is because we are really short for time and need as much as possible. I had a lesson today at half 11 and then stayed until half 4 because I feel worried about if we are going to do a video to the best of our ability in the short amount of time we have left. I feel a lot of pressure at the moment because I want this video to be successful and we haven't got very much time.
The four screens we have created on our video was done easier than i thought it would be, it is still very hard but I thought it would be a lot harder. But the issue that is very hard is getting the colour on the green screen 100% clear, because a lot of the time it has little dots and little colours that aren't covered which seems impossible to make 100% clear no matter how much you try and edit it, which is frustrating.

We have been working on our video for a couple of weeks now, we have a lot to do because of the kind of video we are doing, we have many short clips because we feel it will go better with the song, because its so unique, fast and random we need many short clips because its not an on going thing that you can create a story to. So we have a lot of individual clips to film, we need to make sure it is right so we must film it a few times to ensure its at the right angle and the group member is doing it ok. We also need to edit all of it, we need to do the green screen, create background on photo shop etc, we need to create text on LiveType as well as other applications to make sure the text is ok, we need to get the timing right and we are also trying to re - arrange some of our clips so they make sense and work the best way possible.
I also want to edit a lot of the video to create the effect that works well with the video. In the actual ' I Like That' video there is a cartoon type of effect and different contrasts and different type of effects that adds to the overall effect of the video. So there is a lot of work to be doing and I think we are going to have to put extra effort into timing in class, as well as doing work in our own time.

We have been filming and working on our video for about a week now, one of our members is on holiday, their family was trying to decide on a location to go, and it was between New York and another holiday, but our group member persuaded her family to go to New York, one of the reasons for this is that our song mentions New York and in New York there many famous places and beautiful scenery that would go great in our video, so she has gone there and has taken a video camera to record some footage in New York espeically for our video. We have also decided to do this because it is a completely different location from what we already have, this will allow our video to not only have green screen which is high in technology, and locations around college but also have beautiful scenery from a different country. I think our group is managing well so far, but we have came across things that have been hard to do, for example on the MAC's it seems like when we move things in time all other parts of our video goes out of time as well, even though we try and be as careful as possible. As well as lip syncing being very hard to get pricesly in time with the words of the song.
31/10/11
Today was the first day of us doing green screen in college.
I think it went ok so far for our first try, but I think it seems a lot harder than what some we considered it to be. With the green screen you have to be very carfeul of camera angles and getting the right heights to be able to film appropriately, which in some cases was hard to do. Clothing as well needs to be carefully considered for our group before filming. One of our member wore a hoodie which was not green but a simular kind of colour and that effected what it looked like on the MAC's. Our song choice is different from everyone else's in the class so it is really hard to make a storyline up to the lyrics because they're not telling a story and include a lot of different things. So we need to lip sync a lot of it and try to show attitude within ourselves - this way we create the cool, unique and fun vibe of the song. This is very hard because it is hard to act like that infront of the camera and be that confident, especially if many people are watching but with all aspects considered I think my group did well for the first go and we got a lot filmed.

History Of Music Videos And How They Have Changed
Music videos used to be a lot less important and developed then it is nowadays. MTV first started broadcasting with its first music video being " Video Killed The Radio Star" by the Buggies. With MTV broadcasting 24 hours a day the need for more music videos became more and more common.
One of the first types of music videos was illustrated song. George Thomas produced many still images on a screen to live performances.
The concept of music videos when they were first produced was to have a song accompanied by a performance video. For example, "Video Killed the Radio Star" is a simple video, showing the musicians of The Buggles just playing their instruments while the song was being featured.
After simple music videos of the 80s, the concept of music videos began to change. Many musicians and recording artists took music videos as an opportunity to give more depth to their song and their image. A lot of artists used music videos for active purposes, encouraging people in the United States and around the world to listen and pay attention to the powerful, yet simple voice and image of change.
In the past music videos were just simple performances to play along with the live action occasionally showing special effects. Today music videos have changed a lot. Performance, narrative and mixed type of music videos have become a lot more common, there is a story line amongst most music videos that keep the audience interested, this is often backing up the overal meaning of the song and what they are trying to say to the world. Music videos bring a lot more personal appearence into it nowadays, styling, colouring, hair, make - up etc is very thought through to portray a better more professional looking artist that audiences will be interested in. Raunchey videos are a lot more common with explicit scenes in. With bannings of music videos becoming more and more popular through current artists. Technology has also really developed since then, with better quality cameras, lighting, backgrounds such as green screen, computer technology to create the music video on etc.

This is an early music video in 1979 and is said to be the first music video that was appeared on MTV, the music video is a lot simpler than todays music videos as it uses different camera angles, zooms in and uses basic effects as well as using hand - held camera angles. This is very different from some music videos today as costumes, camera angles, lighting and new technologies.
This video of Beyonce's shows the technological development of current years, this video has a lot of green screen, split screens, 4 screens, planned choreography, stylists with hair and make up and outfit in order to be so successful.
The Voyeruism Theory
The Voyeurism theoy is based on the belief that in some media, there is a notion of looking. Sometimes, this can be in a sexual way. Often in media, women can be portrayed as objects or they are presented as being shown just to look at. This theory is also applied to some music videos as some objectify and sexualise women. Some music video's have even been banned or cut and sensored for extreme cases of this. I have not used Voyeurism in my music video as music videos which have a similar genre to pop/rock do not tend to have this in their music videos. I want the viewer to focus on the singers voice and the song and her style instead.
The Voyeurism theory is a feminist type of theory, that within the media there is a notion of looking. Sometimes this can be through a sexual way. This theory points out that often in the media women can be portrayed mainly sexually and just to look at, that people are more interested within their physical appearance rather than their vocal skills as an artist or contribution to the music industry.
A lot of artists that are sex symbols are portrayed in this way through their music video as a way to create greater fan base and promote themselves, causing high video views and hoping this will cause audiences to buy their album. There have been some music videos that have been banned from playing on MTV or music shows because it is too explicit. As well as being banned off YouTube to avoid offence. An example of this is Rihanna's S&M video which has been banned.
The Voyeruism theory is very relevant to my chosen music genre as there are a lot of women in pop, electro and dance that some viewers may find sexually orientated. Such as Rihanna. A lot of the women are young and good looking, this can be in bands or individually so it is ver common for sexual references to appear in pop music videos today. In my video this will not be presented, because although it is an all female cast we are not portraying any sexual references. This is also portrayed in the official I Like That video, the song itself has sexual references, while the video isn't very explicit.

The notions of looking theory
Andrew Godwin's theory. He has identified a number of key features within music videos that form a relationship and get the interest of the audience, a personal relationship is developed between the artist and audience throughout the music videos, this is created from the lyrics and the visuals seen on screen which is either contradicting the lyrics or emthasising them.
He says that in music videos a lot of the time there is a constructed link between the artist and the visuals of the song, and everything is done very carfeully and purposely. He says sometimes intertextual references to eaither music videos or within films provide greater understanding and pleasure to the audience.
He points out that in music videos, a lot of the time the artist is looking directly at the camera. This personalises the experience, making the audience feel as though they are talking directly to them , feeling a closer personal relationship with the artist, causing fan base to grow.
This Notions Of Looking theory is very relevant to my music video, the main female artist within the music video is looking directly in the camera for most of the video, she is miming lyrics wihtin the song which empthasises the lyrics and overal message of the song. They also do this with text, for example when she mimes " like it" to the camera, the words say it, she mimes it, and it also comes on the screen with text.
Another example is how in my chosen video a lot of visual images are present empthasising what she says, with the " gucci gucci" lyric, the lyric is played out loud, she then mimes it, as well as having it wrote on her hand, this is a very effective way of empthasising certain lyrics and we also plan to use this small technique in our music video. I think all the different lyrics and visual images to back up the lyrics is all to reinforce the originality of the song, as well as it being fun, random and different from any other.

Record Company.
The record company that produced " I Like That" is Vicious Vinyl/ Universal Music
Vicious Vinyl is a record label regioning in Melbourne Austrailia. It is quite a recent record label as it was established in only 1991 by producers Andy Van and John Course. The label has released some very popular dance, club and house records. The most popular genre among the label is dance music.
the label has had over 70 releases, spawned 3 subsidiary labels
The demands of the record label is getting higher and higher because of the reccent growth in dance, electro music and many other record labels favouring that genre. They will impact my video because they are the producers that produced the song, the genre of the song decides what kind of music video it will be, a lot of different shots, diverse, sharp cuts, fun and different as well as being upbeat and keeping the audience interested.

What Lady Gaga says about her music.
Lady gaga's music genre is simular to my chosen artist, she has dance/hip-hop/pop, the song my group have chosen to do has pop/electro elements with dance. So what she thinks about her music and the kind of sound she wants to portray in her songs reflect the genre, giving me and my group more of an insight into " I Like That" genre and what kind of sounds bring in which element.
On an interview about Lady Gaga's genre, the journalist asks how she is bringing dance, hip - hop and pop together.
Lady Gaga: " I think I'm bridging the gap in a few different ways, and it's mostly from a music conceptual standpoint, mixing the dance beats one second. Mixing retro dance beats with more urban melodies, and a certainly pop chorus. It's really about, in a very methodic way, almost choosing exactly what pieces of what I want to have in the record, and then watching it cross over, with my fingers crossed. "

Britney Spears Digipak
This is a very old didgpak of Britney Spears. There is a big contrast between Britneys current digipaks and this one, this one was her " Sometimes" album and was introduced when Britney was quite a new artist.
This is trying to relate to the target audience of young teenage girls, at the starting age of around 11, because Britney is very young these images try to portray her innocence, she is wearing jeans which is a typical assosiation to teenagers, as well as a blue hoody which is also often assosiated with teenagers. The colour blue and trainers is also associated with teenagers, so all her clothing is relating to the target audience, trying to get them interested with clothes that they may as well wear, bringing a simularity between Britney to normal teenage girls, feeling closer to Britney and making fans feel closer to the artist.
Colouring of this digipak also realates to young teenage girls, there's a lot of blue, there's light pink as well as yellow. This are all soft primary colours which relate to the stereotypical view of teenage girls, which by doing this Britney is encouraging this look and relating to her fans.
There are 4 pictures of Britney in the same clothes but in a different position, this is fun and different from what fans may have already seen of simular artists, creating an interest and originality with Britneys digipak.
Britney's styling, make - up and hair is all relatively simple, this is to really relate to the fans of britney, getting them to feel as though she is just another normal teenage girl just like them, so instead of seeing Britney as above them and as more intimidating, they see her as normal and approachable, therefore attracting a larger fan base.
Analysing Katy Perry Teenage Dream
This is Katy Perry's Teenage Dream digipak, straight away the style of the digipak relates to Katy Perry's music that is featured on the album, such as California Girls, in the music video there is a lot of different colours, candy and sweets featured and a lot of pinks, reds and blues. This is reinforcing the colour and style of the music videos, relating to the target audience straight away.
Because the target audience is mainly teenage girls, the colours are something that would appeal to a lot of teenage girls as pink is seen as quite a "girly" colour. It also realates to the style of her songs, for example California Girls was very popular, it was a fun video not being taken too seriously, with sweets and different objects, so this digipak resembles the style trying to be portrayed in the music, which is fun.
The two disks resemble sweet patterns and colours, this again relates to songs in the album as well as making it fun and more enjoyable for the target audience, having a youthful appeal as well as presenting the Pop Genre.
The pictures of Katy will appeal to her fans, as they are able to see new and original photos of the artists, which maybe they have not seen before in magazines and so on. The interest of individual original photos appeal to the audience as they feel like they are seeing something that not many others have seen, and for Katy fans that is something they want to have experienced. The photos of Katy is quite provocative, with her looking as if she has no clothing and is just covered in candy floss, because Katy is a popular celebrity and has been noticed by magazines etc. for her looks it influences her sex symbol appeal. A range of audiences would be interested in seeing these photos of Katy, because of the originality and pun with candy floss, but as well as her appearance it may interest male audiences as well as female fans.
There is also a photo of Katy wearing a tiara and prom dress, as the album is called Teenage Dream, it is a teenage dream that many young girls have to be prom queen, wear a tiara and beautiful dress, so this is again relating the title to images inside, all to atract and interest the audiences causing bigger profit sales and more interest into Katy.
How the music industry is changing
The music industry is very diverse, it is highly popular and has many different styles, genre, languages, artists etc. But changes in the music industry has caused a lot more consumer variety than ever before, with not only the type of music they are interested in but the artists, the album or singles, CD's, MP3's, Ipod, YouTube, downloading etc. There are many possibilities in how the consumer buys the music, as well as artists, types of music, types of style constantly growing in the industry.
The main change is the digital foramt, the main way of listening to music used to be casset/CD's, but as the years go on and technology expands the way we collect and store music has changed. A lot of people now use Ipods and download music onto their phone, a popular way of downloading songs is through Itunes, this is legal and consumers pay for the individual songs or albums. Although the growth of illegal downloading is very comman, with music producers and artists missing a lot of profit, making the music industry a lot less stable financially. This puts the artists and the producers at a struggle because with illegal downloading getting more and more popular, money being made from music is vastly declining.
Aswell as the consuming proccess changing, the distribution of the music industry is also changing with a lot more geographical distrubition of audiences of niche interests developing all over the world.
This puts the artists that i'm reasearching in a bad position because they are not signed with big names, so they are not as well known as others in the industry, so their CD sales and merchandise is not going to be as popular or as common, so a lot of consumers when hearing about their music are likely to reasearch them on the internet and YouTube instead of buying their records.

Meaning of ' I Like That'
The lyrics of 'I Like That' creates a very upbeat song, the rhythm is very individual and brings a lot of electrical instruments to bring it into the electronic genre.
The song meaning reflects a lot of personality within the artists, when this was written you can tell that personal elements of things they enjoy, places they like etc. Come into this song, this makes it very personal and fun, so the meaning isn't too deep and there is not much figurative being used because a lot of things are upfront and obvious. There is also a lot of elements about sex in this song.
What Static Revenger says about ' I Like That'
What was your reaction to the success of I Like That?
"There is no way to reverse-engineer that one… The core of it is Luciana. I think she wrote a phenomenal track with lyrics over what Richard Vission and I had done musically. That track is cool, but let’s be honest, it’s just a friggin’ electro track – it’s Luciana’s singing that makes it great. She’s got a bit of punk-rockstar in her. She’s a real artist with real insight, she has an artist’s brain, she’s not some product." - Static Revenger.
On a previous interview about ' I like that' Static Revenger has explained what he thinks about the single and what brought it success, in this he mentions the thing that he thought was most important which was Luciana's singing, this interview shows that he feels that the sound of the music is important amongst its popularity, this is why I have said that the sound of the music really influences audience responses and how they fee towards the music. It is a fun living song that isn't taken too seriously, this is why we really want to back this up by making a fun video that is not being taken too seriously to make sure it does the concept of the song justice.

Prop List
We will need quite a few props for our music video.
- Big sunglasses
- Bright lipstick
- Diverse, colourful clothing
- A camera
- A tripod
- Jewellry
- Green - Screen
- Drums
Because our group is all girls it makes us have to consider styling more than other groups because it is typical of a pop girl band to have their styling and different factors of styling precise. This makes it relevant to our genre by obeying certain elements.
How we are going to get hold of the props, many of our members already own the things we need such as jewellry and lipstick. Although we may have to buy other factors such as bright clothing, which can be found in retail shops such as Primark, New Look etc.
We can also buy some things like lipsticks, make - up and jewellry from an online source. As well as typical make - up stores such as Boots or Super Drug.
One of our members own a drum set so we will be able to shoot a small part of our video at their house to get the effect.
College will provide us with the camera, tripod and green - screen to be able to do the music video how we would like it.
These types of props relate to Stuart Hall (1980) Theory of encoding/decoding messages. I think our music video will create a negotiated position, which is established when there is a mixture of adaption and opposition to the dominant codes of our music video. This is because our music video is pop/ electro. Pop fans would more than likely expect a slightly simpler music video, but they would expect us to be very considerate of personal image, which you can see by our prop list a lot of thought has gone into our image to be able to pull off the pop image successfully. Although listeners that are more pop fans wouldn't expect the electro element which is a lot of different sounds and electronic sounds, on the other hand people who like listening to electro music may want more electronic elements into the song. So that is why there is a mixture of adaptation because there are different types of music fans addressed in our video.
Location report
Because of our type of music video ( pop electro) and the type of music it is, which is upbeat, original, constantly changing, it is very diverse and to pull of a successful music video that is correctly portraying the type of music our chosen song is, we need to do a lot of different locations and corresponding shots to be able to portray the originality and variable beats and rythms of the music.
This includes:
This includes:
- Green screen. We have chosen to make green screen a valuable and comman location of our music video because it enables us to be very original with backgrounds. Because our video is so diverse and we want it to have a lot of different coloured background, different types of scenery that is not available in any places we can realisticly visit in time for our music video. this will enable us to get the originiality that is displayed within the lyrics and ryhtm of the song onto the big screen which is more likely to give our video success. It fits with our Genre because it is popular within our target audience and popular music which the term " pop music" means, electro element is also being upbeat and always changing, giving excitement which is what electro music shows, especially technology.
- Graffiti wall. We, hopefully will be able to film a part of our music video infront of a wall that has graffiti on. This is because a part of the re - occuring lyric in our song mentions graffiti, so we thought it would be a good idea to have this infront of the wall. It also links in with our target, teenage audience as graffiti is usally associated with youths. We also think this would bring querkyness and originality to our music video and point out how funliving the song is.
- Regular, street areas. We want to do some of our video on the streets, for example down a highstreet with our character wearing original, " weird " clothing, so this enables the video to express originiality within the characters, and a lot of fun and just something different which is what the song is all about, it is not taking things too seriously, so showing a character in outragous, un normal clothing with show the originality that is displayed within the song and to the people the song is trying to address. This fits in with our Genre as its fun and it appeals to the target audience.
- We've had ideas of areas in parks and fields to match different sections of the song and what we think positively goes with the lyrics. We want to do this as well because it is more locations to show originiality and its not just a normal music video you see day - to - day. This fits our music Genre because of the often changing backgrounds, for example the video weve chosen " I Like That" is extremely changable and diverse.

800 word research evaluation
So far my research in a2 has gone well. I have been researching many different elements of music videos, my chosen genre, popular artists and songs that are typical of the chosen genre and factors that are convenient of that, iconography of pop, all the different elements that add up to a successful video in the pop genre.
I have learnt a lot of things about the iconography of the pop genre. For example the way the artist looks on camera in music videos, their clothing for females it can be short items of clothing, fashionable and in trend clothing that not only makes the artist look good, but in a lot of music videos today there is also a lot of advertisement done within the styling of popular artists. For example in Cheryl Cole’s Fight For This Love music video, one of her outfits have been very popular amongst female teenagers and you see that style of clothing imitated in popular retailers. In a band the clothing is well thought through, often there is something matching like a certain colour, or a certain kind of clothing e.g. dresses that all band members where throughout the video.
I’ve learnt the importance of other aspects of styling, such as make – up, hair, personal image how important it is for this to all be picked up on from the public, creating popularity for the individual artist, getting interested in their appearance and personal life creates fan bases and initially more interests into their music.
I have also picked up on iconography colours of the pop genre, which are mostly light colours like light blue, creams, whites, red’s etc. Because I am doing pop – electro sometimes the colours can be more diverse and darker, for example in some of the music video’s I have researched of pop electro, there are a lot of whites but there are often bright colours to contract, e.g. bright blue against a white background.
In my research I’ve also found out a lot more information than before about the genre pop. What it means, where it has come from and how long it has been about. I have recognised its popularity in western countries and all the different kinds of pop you can have, there are many sub genres to pop such as pop – electro, pop – rock, acoustic pop, pop dance etc.
I have not only found out background information about the pop genre and where it has come from I have also found out important information about typical things that the pop videos include. Such as a valuable location e.g. a beach, in a street, on a field. Sometimes pop videos can all be on a green screen and the background to be not real, e.g. in Katy Perry’s California girls video there must have been green screen used, and a lot of technically edited elements from the computer. Many of the video of pop electro use short cuts, text, bright colours, main people featuring in the video, and in recent videos there is a lot of technological elements added such as green screening, editing with the computer, bright lighting and deeply consider all kinds of elements to make sure it is a successful video that people in this day and age would be interested in watching. I’ve found that as technology has grown and been changing more and more videos now are using technological elements and a lot more videos are deeply edited because the technology is now available and it’s what modern audiences are interested in. I want to try and use this in my music video as I feel that I am really drawn to some of the videos I have researched because I am very impressed by all the technology and skills they have put into it, it’s becoming more and more common to my chosen genre, especially pop – electro as the videos are upbeat and always changing with short cuts and different locations to keep up with the beat, rhythm and fast speed that the music is.
I have improved from last year’s research because I have gone into more depth and have more understanding of the genre. Because this year we are doing digi – packs and we are really trying to make it a believable product of the pop genre I feel I need to go into a lot of detail to understand how it works, a lot of different elements are all vital to creating that iconography of pop, so colours, text, style, photos, the way the artist projects themselves and the way we promote our music video all need to be the best we can be to make it a believable product. I have improved my research from last year because I am looking deeply into not only the genre but the individual artists such as Rihanna, Katy Perry, Katy B and how they promote their music videos, this includes magazine articles, interviews, what they say about their videos show what they are aiming to portray, I am towards trying to portray a similar image and promoting my music video in the same way because I have to do cd covers etc. that sell the video.
What I have left to do now is just to keep looking at all the different kinds of artists in my pop – electro genre and work on how I individually can also portray this image successfully.

Music Video Planning
Narrative: The narrative of our music video is going to be mainly performance with some narrative such as lip syncing, this is simular to the actual video that we are doing and it goes really well with the upbeat type of music.
Visual style:
Mise - en - scene: To match the kind of music and the kind of videos the artists of this genre does and its originality, and match its upbeat music such as static revenge video's. We want this to be very original and have a very unique and strong style. This goes back to our research about static revenge and how well this works with their videos. We want big headphones for the style, big sunglasses, big jewelry, bright lighting and well thought - through outfits which represent what our genre represents, such as colours, and uniqueness.
Camera angles: To create what we want to create to match the type of music, its sharp, edgy we want a lot of different camera angles to keep it interesting and keep it up to date with the type of music and the rhythm of the song. High angled shots, low angled shots, over the shoulder shots, medium shots, long shots, panning shots and 2/3 frame shots. Cutting between all these shots to keep it fresh.
Editing: We want a lot of editing as the main factors of the music video is editing, we dont want to do exactly the same as static revenger so we will probably do less editing than them, as they have more equipment etc. But to get a simular sort of reaction as their video we do need a lot of editing. We want a lot of time using the green screen, using objects in the same way the green screen would be used, split the screen into quarters like in the video, cuts and cross - cuts, neon colours, slow motion cuts, blended overlapping shots, as well as a lot of text.
Cast: the cast is going to consist of Tara Smout, Amber Quigley, Amie Farrell and Jessica Allen.
Locations: Green screen, brick walls, by a graffiti filled wall, walking down a high street, on a field, places in town park, in a bed etc. Usually we want to film in day time for brightness and good lighting.
This all links back into the pop genre for the bright colouring, the different camera angles, the lighting similar to other videos, we are going to have a lot of cuts and relations to the genre.
Richard Dyer (1997) Representation theory comes into how we plan our music video.
He came up with four different notions of representation, this is how music videos, films, adverts etc. Are being represented. Researching into the pop genre i think the semitonic, codes and conventions, media language, ideology and overt messages are being sent through the music video. This is through important self image, being highly edited, bright colours, over strong " girly" images being associated with the pop genre.
Typical representations of groups in society such as gender, age and other stereotypes are not statistically correct. For example a lot of the artists are females, like girl bands but there are also some male bands. The age is most the time young, especially in girl bands. For example there are the saturdays, girls aloud, sugar babes. Stereotypically the girls are addressed as very girly, interested in girly subjects and pinks etc. Not all these stereotypes are true as many artists act differently to promote their music on what will be popular.
White middle class males usually are controlling the industry, their ideas of what will promote different artists are passed in through production process encouraging the artists to portray themselves a certain what which is proven popular.

Target audience for music video
The target audience for the music video which we are creating, is for the age range of 12 years old- 22 years old. This is because the music is energetic and upbeat, therefore is typical for this age range. This genre of music is generally used in venues such as nightclubs, parties and general interest for this age range. Also it is simular to other songs and other pop - electro Genre's that is popular for the age range of teenagers. All the other artists and songs i have listed below all appeal to this age range, its very unique, original, fast and upbeat and all this appeals to the teen range.
I think that Blumer & Katz(1974) ' uses and gratifications' theory is relevant to the target audience.
There is 3 main categories this falls into:
Diversion: A form of escapism from everyday pressures and emotions. Diversion connects with our genre because it is a fun escapism, our video is different and fun, it is not taken too seriously and allows the artists to enjoy themselves, which allows the audience to enjoy themselves while watching. They can escape from the pressures of life and can relax watching a video that is fun and is not taken seriously.
Personal identity: for example their music can be exactly how the artist is feeling, they may be able to relate to the lyrics and feel a special connection with the artist, allowing their song to help them through an upsetting time in their life, for example there have been songs related to alcoholics, helping them recover and to help someone deal with death, e.g. The Drugs Dont Work by The Verve.
Personal relationships: Is when a comparison via television personalities and characters, and sociability through discussion about television with other people. Many audiences that watch pop music feel a connection to the artists, that they are simular people or can connect in
some way
Also I think that Hypodermic Theory Lasswell (1927) relates to the target audience of who is watching music videos. This is that the media has a direct affect on the audience that is watching and that the media could directly influence audiences opinions. I think this is very relevant within the Genre of our group, as it is usually young girls, who are pretty and have worked their way onto television by pop shows and bands, that the audience opinion is swayed and they judge that the women are unintelligent or vain and tend to judge them on their appearance rather than personality.

Brief History Of Chosen Genre
The term pop music means popular music, it has erythematic elements and melodies and often has an electronic sound to it, the term was first used in 1926 but it emerged out of rock and roll music in the 1950’s in the USA and UK and can often be categorized with a verse and repeated chorus. Often the pop music conventions are things such as a lot of colour, stylists as they are very in particular about clothes they wear to create the right look, this can be anything from simple clothing to more formal, for example most females in a pop Genre wear skirts or dresses, and a lot of people in bands wear matching colours. Sometimes pop music can have very complex music videos to make it popular, so people get interested and enjoy watching them, making their fan base grow. Some of the main artists of this genre are: Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, Rihanna, Katy B, Katy Perry, Cheryl Cole, Duffy, James Morrison, Kesha, Lady GaGa, Lily Allen, Pink, Shakira, The Fray etc. Some key songs are: Ego, On a Night like This, Cry Me Out, Please Don’t Leave Me, Coming up Easy, Oh My God, and Telephone etc. All this is key as it is reliant on their popularity and appealing to their target audience, which is around the teen age although many out of this age range favour pop.
Richard Dyer (1997) Representation of important self image, highly edited, bright colours and a strong girly image is being represented with the pop genre. Many artists that are in the pop genre relate to the stereotypical representation .

Research of chosen artist
Static Revenger
The artist named Static Revenger (Dennis White) is an American record producer, video director and a well-known DJ who is based in Los Angeles. He is a worldwide artist and is very well known within the music industry. He has worked with other well-known artists such as Swedish house mafia, Madonna and Shakira. I have chosen this artist, because I find his music very upbeat and interesting and enjoyable to listen to, as there are many different instruments and beats within the music. I also feel that because of the tempo and beat that I could create very interesting and creative music video that would enable me to do a lot of different things, and really try with the technology of editing, green screens etc to make my music video good and matching to the beat of the song. The target audience for this artist is 16-25 age range, as well as anyone that enjoys listening to upbeat music as the lyrics of the song are well understood by the age range, and the rhythm of the music is very popular amongst the age range. Static Revenger appeals to this age range because his music is the type of music that you would enjoy at a party, out and about etc. A lot of people in this age range listen to these types of songs as they are getting more and more popular in modern society.
Luciana Caporaso
In the song, which my group and I have chosen to create a music video for, Luciana caporaso is featured within. She is an English singer and songwriter, who has collaborated with many other artists, such as Taio Cruz and Bodyrox.
Richard Vission
This artist is also featured within the song, which my group has chosen. Richard Vission is also an American record producer, DJ and remixer; he helps create the upbeat sound that is vital for the music

Music Videos By Chosen Artist
Static Revenge: Skin Im In
This video is similar to others of static revenge, they always seem to do very individual videos, a lot different to most artists today because they do a lot of editing, special effects and create a very detailed, smart video untypical of the videos in the charts today which is a lot more simple, following artists doing dance moves, or on a beach and so on. It is a lot more complicated and interesting so that is why I have decided to use this video as an example
Mise – en – scene:
In this video they use a lot of props, but it is more subtly done which makes it unobvious, they use headphones for the electronic and “ cool” effect that the video portrays, sunglasses also adds to this, they also use a green screen for different backgrounds, they also use a small square green screen and put different images on it, then contrasting with what they put it against, for example
They also use have very clear backgrounds, like white, black etc. the lighting works very well and makes a cleaner, fresher image. They also have regular costume changes, constantly making it different and interesting, this is mainly casual wear.
Camera work:
The camera work is done very well, there are a lot of medium shots, so you can see some of the background and most of the person, there are also many zoomed in shots, close ups of the face and close ups of different objects such as the headphones. Green screen is used a lot during this video.
Sound:
The sound is very individual and has a lot of different beats and different rhythms to it which keeps it very interesting and doesn’t get boring, untypical of the pop genre it doesn’t seem to be very repetitive with different effects to it.
I also noticed a lot of bright colors and different camera angles, which is iconography of the genre.
Static Revenge: I Like That
I Like that. I’ve decided to analyze this video as we are doing this for our own video, it is very good and has lots and lots of different little details added to it, you can tell this video has had a lot of work done to it and has been very hard and long to produce.
Mise – en – scene:
Again this video has a lot of bright colors, contrasting with one another like whites, bright blues, bright greens all contrasting within the same scene. This makes it likely to appeal to the young generation, teen generation which their music is aimed to. Jewelry is used in this video to make a statement and to make it seem “cool” and to give a good, modern effect. Lighting is very bright, edited and there is a lot of different scenes and locations added to this video to keep it interesting and different.
Camerawork:
The camera work is a lot of different shots, long shots, medium shots, close ups, zooming of the camera, repeated images. This is to keep with the rhythm of the beat, which is very fast so they try and keep the video very fast too with changing effects, changing camera angles etc.
Sound:
There is a regular rhythm and base, topped off by vocals of mostly a woman, but also has vocals by a male which keeps it different, also every so often the rhythm slightly changes keeping it different again so regularities are kept to a minimum.
Editing:
There is again a lot of editing, often it is repeated images done in different colors and different camera angles to create different effects, and there are again a lot of green screens used for backgrounds, this makes it seem very modern and appeals to the target audience.
Static revenge happy people.
This video is quite different to their usual style, this is all cartoon effects and is a type of animation, all their other videos have also had a lot of different effects but usually have singers and main people in the video, although this is all done in a cartoon - like effect. That is why I have chosen to analyse it so I can analyse broadly of all their videos to have a full understanding of what they are like as artists, what their trying to portray by their videos/ music and so i can try and interpret this some how into my own video.
Mise - en - scene:
A lot of bright colours is again used, but i would say more so in this video than any other i have seen, a lot of contrasting colours, different background, black cartoon coloured figure, rainbows, flashes of different colours, stripes and so on. This imitates the livelyness and fun of the music, that is successfuly done by the rythm and beat. Cartoon caracters are used, stars, no set location ( just random, changing, colourful backgrounds) headphones, text etc.
Camerawork:
A broad mix of different camera angles, meduim shots, close ups, full body shots, two frame, one frame, above shoulder shots, there are also many repeated shots, and two different camera shots being shown at one time, for example a close up of a womans face and then a long shot of someone dancing, this all keeps the video fun, interesting, unique, fast and snappy which is just like the music they produce and the kind of thing they want to portray, they are a fun, unique artist and this is shown in all of their work. Unlike most music videos, there isn't a directed story with an artist walking, lip syncing its very different that its in a cartoon - like effect and has lots of different things being added.
Sound:
The sound is very unique, with vocals being minimal, and rythm and beat continously present and changing, this is again another way to create upbeat original music that the target audience would enjoy listening to and puts them in a better mood.
Editting:
An extreme amount of editting is done in this video, there is a cartoon - like effect throughout the video, a lot of cutting to different angles and different shots continously. Shot - reverse - shot is also done, as well as colours being edited, green screen.

Digipack research
Our group have decided to make a music video orientated around the Genre " pop". There are a few reasons we have decided to go with this Genre, firstly our group is made up of four girls, with many other Genre's such as rock, indie it is mainly all male, with a few female singers, so it is very hard to pull it off successfully as male vocalists and male images are essential to the image most indie/rock bands want to portray (which in some cases such as heavy metal its disruption, scary and dark).
Most members in our group favour this type of music, so we have knowledge of music videos we like and would like to add certain ideas to ours. We also had some ideas of song choices that we thought would work well in a video and things that we would enjoy doing together as a group. We researched pop artists so we could learn about how they portray themselves by clothing, make up, styling, advertisements, television appearances as all this builds up/promotes their music. We researched people such as Katy Perry, Rihanna, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Girs Aloud, The Saturdays, Cheryl Cole, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears and so on.
We came to a conclusion that these people have bright colours in things like cd covers, and they put a lot of effort for the images displayed to match the album cover. For example in Rhianna's " only girl in the world" album her album cover is her alone, kneeled down in an empty field, this adds to the effect of her album cover by play on words and really getting the point of her songs across. Another example that in Katy Perry's " Teenage Dream" album, one of her main and most successful songs was " California Girls" which she had life - like candy and so on, in her cd cover it is a picture of her lay in candy floss, which goes with the video of her main song, so people get interested in the video. We also came to the conclusion that the artist's image was very important, a lot of artists are airbrushed to get rid of any blemishes, skin tone abnormalities, and to look a lot nicer/presentable to the fans. Many female artists not only appeal to girls but have a large male fanbase, so publishers try and get males interested by having their make up properly done, hair styled etc and use provocative pictures to widen their popularity, resulting in larger cd sales. Also many artists have typically " girly" colours and themes, pinks, light blues, whites, creams, yellows, light colours. As well as nice clothes, make up etc.
I think doing all that is quite a successful way in making sure artists have a very wide fan base and hit high cd sales, it is suprising that nearly everything an artist does can effect their popularity, resulting in higher or lower cd sales, advertising and appearances is very important for an artist to have music in the charts because when peole that are interested in the celebrities style/ clothing / personality results in them becoming more and more interested, buying cd's, posters, concert tickets etc. For example Rihanna was on the cover of seventeen magazine, with a large article of her talking about her style, style tips etc which makes people become involved with her, eventually becoming envolved with her music.
We could do this in our project by portraying a clear image. With four females our video/ digipacks will show the female orientation that many pop artists/bands show. We will try and make our CD cover present our music video and the meaning of the song, this is typical for the many artists we researched. We will include bright colours, edit the pictures and deeply consider our hair styling, make up, clothes, props to ensure that the right image is being portrayed.
Most members in our group favour this type of music, so we have knowledge of music videos we like and would like to add certain ideas to ours.
